Chile is a mining country par excellence. It is the world's largest copper exporter and the second largest exporter of lithium and molybdenum.

In this line, the Committee of International Mining Fairs and Activities, convened by the Ministry of Mining, aims to join efforts and perspectives from different sectors to continue positioning the country as a world reference for mining in international fairs.

A committee with a long-term vision

This body is made up of different public and private sector organizations. Specifically, the Ministry of Mining chairs this Committee and includes ProChile, InvestChile, Fundación Imagen de Chile, SONAMI, the Mining Council, the Chilean Chamber of Construction and the Center for Copper and Mining Studies (CESCO). The Chambers of Commerce of the host countries of each fair and other relevant actors also participate.

At the event, the Minister of Mining, Aurora Williams, highlighted the cross-cutting nature of this commission. She also emphasized the importance of adopting a long-term perspective in the mining objectives, which transcend the government of the day.

"For Chile, with a solid and consolidated mining industry, participation in international fairs should focus on representing the industry as a whole, beyond government institutions, private parties or unions. There is a consensus on the importance of positioning Chile as a world-class mining industry, backed by more than 100 years of experience," said Minister Williams.

Rossana Dresdner, executive director of Fundación Imagen de Chile, said: "The committee is a very important effort for the country. This project, which we have been working on since last year together with the minister and Jorge Riesco of SONAMI, seeks to consolidate a cross-cutting vision in order to position Chile as a whole in the international arena. These events are not only related to the growth of mining, but also to the integral development of Chile as a nation, working in a joint and coordinated manner".

PDAC, the first major challenge

The Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada ( PDAC) is one of the most important mining trade shows in the world. It brings together industry professionals, companies and organizations to discuss and promote mineral exploration, investment and technological innovations in the activity. In total, there will be more than 27 thousand attendees from 135 countries.

Chile will have a stand at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, where strategic meetings with potential partners and the presentation of mining services and prospects will take place.

In this regard, Jorge Riesco, president of the National Mining Society (SONAMI) indicated the "importance of showing a country united around mining, which recognizes its current value and is committed to its future development, promoting responsible and sustainable growth in this key sector for our country".

Meanwhile, Aurora Williams underscored the relevance of Chile's presence: "For years, we have actively participated in events such as PDAC and London Metals Week, consolidating our presence in the most relevant scenarios of the sector. This joint effort allows us to project ourselves as what we really are: a country with a solid and robust mining industry, which not only produces minerals in a responsible manner, but also positions them in international markets with leadership".
