Within the framework of the State visit to India, and in a joint statement, they highlighted the commitment to strengthen relations in the areas of trade, culture, science, technology and innovation, among others.
This Tuesday, April 1, in the city of New Delhi, the President of the Republic Gabriel Boric Font and the Prime Minister of India, Narenda Modi, made a joint statement in which they highlighted the spirit of collaboration and cooperation between the two countries, announcing various commitments of collaboration, among which stands out the start of negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
President Boric pointed out that "16 years after the last visit of a Head of State, I assume with responsibility the duty to continue strengthening our relations through measures as important as concrete. That is why today we can announce that, after much conversation, after much work by our foreign ministries and an agreement we have reached with Prime Minister Modi, we will begin negotiations between India and Chile for a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement, which formalizes our commitment to work together and collaboratively to strengthen our economic relationship with a view to mutual benefit".
At the same time, the Head of State announced that "we celebrate the first signing of a cultural exchange program between the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage of Chile and the Ministry of Culture of India, which will allow, to name a few examples, the promotion of arts and culture through the participation in international festivals or the generation of exchange in the area of music and dance".
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the "spirit of friendship and commitment to strengthen relations between the two nations. "For India, Chile is an important partner and friend from Latin America and today our delegations have identified several initiatives to enhance our cooperation in the decade ahead. We appreciate mutually beneficial cooperation in trade and culture."
At the same time he commented that "4 thousand people consider Chile as their home and I thank the President for taking care of these people from India in his country".
