In the framework of the working trip of the President of the Republic Gabriel Boric to Japan and China, the President inaugurated on May 12 the Chile Day at the Universal Exposition 2025 held in Osaka (Japan), where the country has a pavilion that has been visited by more than 250 thousand people to date.

In a protocol ceremony at the National Day Hall -which included the raising of the Chilean and Japanese flags and the singing of the respective national anthems- the Head of State highlighted the strong bilateral, economic and friendship ties between both nations.

In addition, the President called for the defense of multilateralism as a means of conflict resolution, as reflected in Chile's presence in this type of international forum, where more than 160 countries and international organizations with flags are represented.

Chile was the 20th participant to celebrate its National Day at Expo Osaka 2025 and the second Latin American country to do so.

Chile's National Day was attended by a large public-private delegation, composed of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Alberto van Klaveren; Agriculture, Esteban Valenzuela; Transport and Telecommunications, Juan Carlos Muñoz; the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, Carolina Arredondo; and the Undersecretary of International Economic Relations, Claudia Sanhueza.

Cultural and protocol events

One of the objectives of the National Days at the Universal Exhibitions is to show the Japanese and international public the artistic diversity existing in the country.

To end the celebration, the "Chile Fest" was held, an event that sought to continue with the mission of bringing Japanese and international audiences closer to Chilean culture and where artists such as Congreso, Banda Conmoción, Jean Paul Olhaberry, Karcocha and Bafona performed.

In addition, the 34th edition of the Chile-Japan Business Council was inaugurated, with a large Chilean delegation led by Rosario Navarro, president of Sofofa. Among the topics discussed were climate change mitigation, the uncertainty of the global economic situation and the role of artificial intelligence in business. The event was attended by more than 40 businessmen from Chile and Japan.
