Chile adds a new source of pride on the world energy scene. Rebeca Poleo, president of the Chilean Hydrogen Association (H2 Chile), and Dr. Marcela Angulo, director of the University of Concepción in Santiago, have been included in the list "Women in Hydrogen 50" 2025, an outstanding selection that recognizes women leaders for their contribution to the development of hydrogen at the international level.
The award is presented by Hydrogen Economist in collaboration with the Women's Global Leadership Conference in Energy (WGLC), and will be officially presented in October during the conference in Houston, USA.
Chemical engineer Rebeca Poleo was recognized for her solid career of almost two decades in the energy industry, excelling in the design, operation and construction of oil, gas and hydrogen facilities in Venezuela, Chile and Bolivia.
In Chile, she has led key processes for the development of green hydrogen projects, such as the technical review of the Guide for Special Hydrogen Projects of the Superintendence of Electricity and Fuels (SEC) and capacity building through her role as rapporteur in technical specialization courses on hydrogen.
She currently serves as head of hydrogen projects at ENGIE Chile, is a founding member of the Association of H2V Producers of Magallanes, is part of the Ethics and Compliance Committee of H2 Chile, and has been an active promoter of good practices and governance in the industry. Her education includes a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, a diploma in leadership and project management, and PMP certification from the Project Management Institute.
Dr. Marcela Angulo, PhD in Environmental Sciences and current director of the Santiago branch of the University of Concepción, was highlighted in the category "Industrial use and change", recognizing her work to integrate green hydrogen in high-impact industrial processes.
Angulo has promoted an applied research agenda aimed at the decarbonization of sectors such as mining, forestry and petrochemicals, with a territorial approach that seeks to position the Biobío Region as a strategic pole for the use of hydrogen in local industries.
Its contribution has been key in sectoral planning initiatives, such as its participation in Corfo's Green Hydrogen Strategic Committee, and in strengthening the innovation ecosystem and training of specialized human capital.
According to the organization responsible for the recognition, the women selected in the "Women in Hydrogen 50" have been distinguished for generating a real change in the hydrogen industry, combining technical knowledge, institutional leadership and strategic vision.
The fact that two representatives from Chile are included in this select list at a global level, and are also the only Latin American women recognized in the 2025 edition, consolidates the country's role in the international green hydrogen scenario and underlines women's leadership in the energy transition.
This double recognition reinforces not only the country's commitment to sustainable development, but also the growing presence of women leaders in traditionally male-dominated sectors. One more step towards a just, diverse and inclusive energy transition.
