The meeting in Punta Arenas highlighted the country's competitive advantages to attract international capital for energy transition projects, such as green hydrogen.
With the strong Magellan wind as a backdrop, almost 200 attendees participated this Monday in the forum "Green Investment in Latin America and the Caribbean, solutions with global reach" of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), an event that highlighted Chile's potential as a destination for sustainable investments. The meeting focused the debate on the country's competitive advantages to lead the energy transition and sustainable development.
Chile not only has unique natural resources, such as the strong winds of the Magallanes region or the solar radiation of the Atacama Desert, but also offers stability, certainties and a business-friendly ecosystem. "Chile values and welcomes foreign investment. We do not negotiate special conditions, but offer a stable and predictable regulatory framework, which has allowed investors not only to arrive, but also to stay and expand their businesses from here", highlighted the Minister of Finance, Mario Marcel.
For IDB President Ilan Goldfajn, "Chile is an example for the region. It has the resources, vision and competitive advantages to lead in this strategic market. The IDB is committed to our role as a bridge to connect the private and public sector, the region and the world, the countries and opportunities, in order to transform that potential into real development".
Ensuring the conditions for the materialization of these investments is paramount. From the Ministry of Public Works, Minister Jessica López reinforced the importance of having infrastructure prepared for the challenges of the future: "Our goal is to develop resilient and sustainable public works, which not only boost industry, but also protect the population from climate change". Planning strategic routes for green hydrogen logistics, for example, is part of the challenge.
The Magallanes region is setting the pace in renewable energies. With ideal conditions for wind energy generation and a commitment to the development of green hydrogen, the area is positioned as a strategic pole for sustainable investments. "This region has an important advantage in the generation of clean and low-cost energy, which represents a great opportunity for Chile and the world," said Minister Marcel.
"Magallanes is a reflection of Chile's potential to attract sustainable investment and is becoming a key region for the country's development. This IDB investment forum demonstrates the importance of public-private collaboration to consolidate this growth, and confirms that Chile is perceived as a reliable country with a vision for the future," says the executive director of Imagen de Chile, Rossana Dresdner.
The governor of the region, Jorge Flies, described this meeting as "a unique opportunity in the Magallanes region around its historical productive axes. The possibility of having here investors from the five continents, the Inter-American Development Bank, and also being able to have the highest authorities in the economic sphere of the Government is a unique opportunity to showcase the region".
