The National Library of Chile, founded on August 19, 1813 and recognized as one of the oldest in Latin America, stands out as the main space dedicated to the collection and conservation of Chile's bibliographic heritage. During more than two centuries of history, it has safeguarded fundamental works for the cultural and intellectual development of the country.

In this context, this institution and the Fundación Imagen de Chile signed a collaboration agreement whose purpose is to rescue and project Chilean identity internationally through the bibliographic archive. The initiative seeks to take advantage of the country's historical memory, preserved by the Library, to enrich the country's story that we share with the world.

After signing the agreement, the executive director of the National Library, Soledad Abarca, said that this alliance seeks "to let the world know that our identity, our heritage, is part of Chile. We want to be known and to be able to carry out many projects that help us to make our cultural heritage, our literary heritage and all the content we have here at the National Library more visible. The Library serves as a curator of national historical archives, which also serve to tell the story of Chile to the world".

Rossana Dresdner, executive director of Fundación Imagen de Chile, said: "The Library is the guardian of the memory and, therefore, of the identity of this country, which is the basis of what we say about Chile to the world. And not only because they keep documents, books, audiovisual material, photographs, but also because they keep the contents of all these cultural expressions throughout history up to the present day. They are an incomparable support for the country's story.

Bureau of Cultural Institutions

This collaboration adds to a series of agreements that Fundación Imagen de Chile has made within the framework of the Cultural Institutions Roundtable, which seeks to promote collaboration between various institutions in the country through the preservation and dissemination of culture.

"We made the proposal to set up this table to various cultural institutions last year, because we think that the contribution of culture to the country's story and to show what we are is fundamental. We wanted to bring them all together and with them, to elaborate a kind of story or a common contribution to what we are saying about Chile in this area, which is not only artistic, it is also an area of identity," said Rossana Dresdner. "And of course, the library plays a very important role in that," she added.
