Chile-Brazil Relationship

With more than 180 years of diplomatic relations, Chile and Brazil are strengthening their historic ties with a new State Visit that will take place between April 22 and 24. On this occasion, the President of Chile, Gabriel Boric, will travel to Brazil accompanied by a cross-cutting delegation composed of ministers, parliamentarians from the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, undersecretaries, governors, trade union representatives, businessmen and academics.

The objective of the visit is to consolidate the bilateral agenda in key areas such as trade, investment, logistical integration and regional cooperation. As part of the trip, both presidents will participate in a series of activities to commemorate the first celebration of Friendship Day between Chile and Brazil, established to highlight the deep ties that have united the two countries since the 19th century.
Brazil, Chile's third largest trading partner.

The South American giant -third largest country in the Americas and fifth largest in the world- is a key economic ally for Chile. It is currently Chile's third largest trading partner worldwide and the first in Latin America. It is also the largest destination for Chilean investments abroad. In 2024, the trade exchange between both nations reached US$ 12,560 million, with an average annual growth of 2.7% since 2014.

In 2024, a total of 1,354 Chilean companies made sales to Brazil, 34.5% of which corresponded to MSMEs, transactions that represented shipments of US$ 1,331 million, mainly for products such as salmonids, molybdenum, bottled wines, olive oil, services, copper wire, cardboard, hazelnuts, iodine and fresh apples.

This economic context sets the tone for the visit, which seeks to strengthen trade ties and promote new mechanisms for investment and productive integration.

Bioceanic Road Corridor

On this occasion, one of the key points that can be achieved is the progress towards the consolidation of the Bioceanic Road Corridor, a land route that will connect Chile, Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil. In total, this corridor will have an extension of 2,400 km, will connect the Pacific Ocean with the Atlantic Ocean and will facilitate trade between the countries involved.

Thus, in the run-up to the trip, Chile presented the Action Plan for the Bioceanic Road Corridor, which includes 22 strategic road projects and works aimed at decongesting access to port facilities. All of the above will be carried out in coordination with the countries involved, in order to establish strict customs controls that guarantee the safety and legality of the products.

How does Brazil see us?

According to the Longitudinal Study of Priority Markets 2024, conducted by the Fundación Imagen de Chile, which measures the perception of Chile in different markets, São Paulo was one of the cities where the level of knowledge about Chile has increased the most since 2020. Specifically, this increase went from 33% to 49%.

In the "favorable opinion of Chile" variable, Sao Paulo registered 70% in 2024. That is, 12% more than in 2020. Among the attributes that caused the increase in favorability are exports of quality services and products, reliability, economic stability and commitment to sustainability and gender equality.
