As of this Monday, March 3, 2025, Councilor Pamela Figueroa Rubio is the new President of the Board of Directors of the Electoral Service of Chile, being the first woman in this position. By majority vote, the Board of Directors elected Councilor Figueroa, as established in article 63 of the law on the electoral registration system and Electoral Service.

Pamela Figueroa's trajectory

Pamela Figueroa Rubio, member of the Board of Directors of Servel since 2022, is a Political Scientist and Professor, PhD in American Studies (IDEA-USACH), Master of Arts in Latin American Studies, mention in Government from Georgetown University. She is currently an academic at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IDEA) of the University of Santiago de Chile.

The new President highlighted the relevance of having a woman leading this fundamental institution for the country in the year of its Centenary celebration. Among the main challenges of her administration, Figueroa pointed out the continuity of the prestige and management of the Electoral Service both nationally and internationally, especially in view of this year's presidential and parliamentary elections, which will be the first with automatic registration and mandatory voting.

The outgoing President, Andrés Tagle Domínguez, began his 4-year term on March 1, 2021 and will continue in his role as Director as of that date.

Key challenges for the new management

The Board of Directors, also composed of María Cristina Escudero Illanes, David Huina Valenzuela and Alfredo Joignant Rondón, thanked the outgoing President, Andrés Tagle Domínguez, for his leadership during these 4 years of great challenges for the Electoral Service. During this period, 21 elections were held in 11 electoral processes, some of them in the midst of a pandemic, including two unprecedented constituent processes in our history. Both in the midst of the pandemic of 2021 and in the first elections with mandatory voting in 2024, the Service held elections in two days as it had not been done in almost 100 years in our country. Also implemented during this period was voting for persons deprived of liberty, the georeferencing of voters to bring their polling place closer to their home and the reincorporation of compulsory voting in our electoral system, which brought participation to historic levels.
