The first Regional Summit of Girls was held on Saturday at the National Stadium in Santiago with almost a thousand attendees of different ages. Its objective was to connect girls, adolescents and young women from different territories and realities to strengthen their leadership and capacity for action.

Young people and families attended, mainly from the Metropolitan Region and also from other countries such as Colombia, Peru, Mexico, Panama, Ecuador, Brazil and Argentina, including environmental activist and co-founder of Jóvenes por el Clima Argentina, Nicki Becker.

Organized by the Tremendas movement, this initiative also had the support of CAF (Development Bank of Latin America), Avina Foundation and UN Women, as well as the sponsorship of Unicef, Unesco, University of Chile, INACAP, National Sports Institute, Dove, Marca Chile, Ministry of Women and Gender Equity, Ministry of Education, Embassy of Mexico and the sponsorship of Banco Estado. The event also included a special greeting for the participants from former President Michelle Bachelet.

One of the participants was the Undersecretary General of Government, Nicole Cardoch, who emphasized that "women have to continue taking these spaces, especially girls and young women. We are half of the population and we have to be in the position of decision making, especially in politics, which is what impacts us day by day and also changes the future".

The representative of Unicef Chile, Violet Speek-Warnery, emphasized that "we fight every day for the rights of children and adolescents. While we can help and push these changes through spaces like this, when it is the girls themselves who take up this cause, it makes us very happy. They alone, with their abilities, with their effort, can make their dreams come true and achieve changes in the future".

Rosa Devés, rector of the Universidad de Chile, explained the importance of the participation of the University of Chile in this type of linking instances: "I feel it as a main obligation, an essential responsibility, although of course it is also a pleasure and a learning experience. I need to connect with the young women, learn from them, I come to soak up that energy and knowledge of society that they have," he said.

"Seeing the summit, seeing the flow of people who are interested in educating themselves, informing themselves, participating in this conscious activism, in addition to having Tremendas representatives from other countries for me still feels unreal, but it means that we exist and that we have a voice and a vote," highlighted Julieta Martinez, founder of Tremendas.

In addition to panels and presentations by authorities, experts and representatives of Tremendas Ecuador, Panama, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, attendees were able to visit 17 stands of various partner organizations such as Corporación Miles, Defensoría de la Niñez, WWF, Genias and more, which offered interactive activities and enriching experiences.
